Dickwella and Matara Markets

Dickwella market is very convenient and a good place to call in at on the way back from the fish market in Tangalle. However, Matara market is much bigger than Dikwella and is open everyday with being the Sunday busiest day; we advise you arrive early in the morning to see the best of all that’s on sale. They have everything from fruit and vegetables, fish and seafood, pots and pans, to t-shirts and trinkets. With hundreds of traders coming from all over the region, this is a great way to see real-life Sri Lanka.

Tangalle Fish and Food Markets

Tangalle food markets are a real treat to tantalise the taste buds. Just 25 minutes from Meda Gedara you’ll find a colourful array of fresh local produce lining the streets. There you will find fruits and vegetables from the emerald green land or fresh fish caught daily in the Indian Ocean. The vibrant colours, the hustle and bustle of local market life and the smell of cinnamon spice fill the air. Walk further on down to the beautiful harbour and take in the view.
