Meda Gedara Wellness Weeks 2024
Travel for wellbeing is a fresh take on simply going on holiday. Travel for wellbeing is a new approach to getting more out of life. Regardless of your background or spiritual orientation, I believe the pillars that are vital for wellbeing and great health are the same for all: movement, nutrition, connection and expansion.
Right from the outset I wanted to create an opportunity for individuals and couples to come and enjoy Meda Gedara Villa. I wanted to make it accessible to all, irrespective of budget. From this simple quest grew my determination to create a world class wellness holiday for those who want a new experience; so I set about curating an inclusive programme wherein people of all ages, genders and backgrounds feel welcome and very much part of our MG family.
The Meda Gedara Wellness Week focusses on a healthy mind, body and soul. Our guests are encouraged to retreat from the everyday, to breathe more consciously, to make new connections with other guests and also with themselves, indulging themselves in self love and nourishment, adventure and exploration.
The wellness sessions are held in the shala at Meda Gedara which sits beside the Indian Ocean and is wrapped on one side with jungle and swaying palms the other. It’s a magical space where the acoustics reverberate and the vibrations take you to a higher place, a place where everyday life is a million miles away.
Starting with the body and mind, our two very different yogi leaders will work on our movement, connection and expansion pillars; both practitioners expertly weaving many different elements into their unique sessions to help us feel a transformation of the body and mind.
Even the most skeptical spiritual avoiders are won over by the genuine love that our resident yogi, Chaminda, has for the ancient Sanskrit chants that he delivers in his deep and powerful tones. Every morning he takes us on a new journey of breath work, mind work and physical work; it’s deceptively exhausting as every muscle in the body is awakened and drawn to new lengths. Every part of your mind focussed, every pathway of your brain opened to new routes as we absorb ancient wisdoms and start to shift and feel transformed – even for those who weren’t expecting to be!
Grace, our London therapist, coach and yin yogi will lead us on our evening journey of self love and restoration; her sessions are grounding and slow, no lycra needed as she teaches us to thrive.
Time spent away from home, being with ourselves in a new and healthy environment can be just the right place to get introspective.
Spirituality is a very personal thing and what is holistic and healthy for some people might be hilariously woo-woo for others. That’s perfectly fine, let’s celebrate these differences and all laugh when we feel like laughing – then everybody feels engaged with trying new things, learning to be comfortable with being uncomfortable and discovering that exploring the ancient wisdoms can be surprisingly refreshing, great fun and good soul food.
Then of course, we welcome the nutrition and the sensational menus created by the genius chef Jay Halford. His mouthwatering and healthy menus with their incredible flavours encourage people to sit around the table for hours. Our traditional Sri Lankan hoppers, dahl and chilli sambol are also one of the key memories for most: so unexpected and so damn good! Not only is the food unbelievably delicious but the dining tables set up on the verandah, in the garden and on the beach are so beautifully positioned and decorated that long and lengthy mealtimes are part of the experience.
These gastronomic delights galvanise the group and rouse light chats, deep conversations and belly laughs, inspiring and strengthening connections.

During the week we also explore the local area. Our optional adventures are a great way to get a feel for the culture and expand your understanding of these gentle people in this glorious land. We go on bike rides, climb ancient temples, visit UNESCO heritage sites, swim with turtles, release baby turtles into the sea and glide around lagoons on tranquil rafts.
This is a week of rich diversity and opportunities to expand your mind and your horizons, open your eyes to new meaning and your hearts to feelings.
Our Meda Gedara Wellness weeks are curated so you can fully immerse in all the wonders of MG, however every part of the itinerary is totally optional. We urge all of our guests to make this week their own to get what they need out of it. Come alone, or come with a partner, a friend, a sister, a brother or a mother and share the wonders of Meda Gedara Wellness Weeks.
Our 2025 Wellness Weeks are now on sale. Join us between either 25th January – 1st February or 1st February – 8th February.
A week at Meda Gedara is the best investment for self love that you will ever make!
